INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone! My name is Jared Batin and I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and I have lived here throughout all of my life. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I love doing automotive videography and photography. I grew up with cars ever since when I was a kid because of my dad. My interest in cars made me want to become a videography/photographer. I also enjoy playing sports, video games, and guitar in my free time.
Music has had an enormous influence throughout my life. When I was young, I remember playing a game called Rock Band with my family, jamming out to a variety of rock songs from the 1990s and 2000s using plastic instruments. Even though none of my parents played any instruments, we loved playing this game because of the music. Even though I love many genres of music, my interest in rock is special to me due to my parents. Unfortunately, I have never gone to a concert yet.
When I was 14 years old, my grandfather gifted me a Yamaha electric guitar. Due to COVID-19, I did want to do any in-person lessons so I decided to learn all online. Due to my interest in video games, I decided to buy a game called Rocksmith to learn guitar. Surprisingly, this was a great way to introduce me to playing guitar! However, this game overlooks many parts of playing the guitar, so I also learned using YouTube and other free online resources like Justin Guitar.
Playing guitar has introduced me to many songs, genres, and guitarists. Recently, I found this impressive Japanese guitarist on YouTube named Ichika Nito as an example of a new guitarist I found.

ReplyDeleteI always wondered if learning via a video game would work. I worked with a student that had done Yousician. His rhythm was awful and he didn't understand that it was awful. Luckily we got that turned around.
ReplyDeleteYes! I completely understand that there are so many difficulties of learning online. You don't really know how you sound like unless you record it yourself or have someone listen. That's why I only used the game to introduce and motivate myself to play in the beginning!
DeleteI loved the part about learning on a video game. its really underutilized. History-themed games have always helped me learn too. I wonder if someday it'll be incorporated into academia.
ReplyDeleteHello Jared, I also enjoy learning guitar from YouTube and other online platforms. There is a lot of good information out there. Good luck in your school endeavors.
ReplyDeleteI love Ichika Nito! He is very talented. Learning guitar through video games and simply broadening your music taste through gaming is awesome and can really open you up to new types of music. Growing up in the 2000's you must have discovered some awesome bands especially punk rock.
ReplyDeleteHe is a very talented guitarist. It's pretty interesting that you got into guitar through video games. Good luck on continuing to teach yourself!
ReplyDeleteHi Jared! That's awesome that you've been able to teach yourself some guitar. I feel that we are so lucky to live in an era where we have such accessibility through the internet to learn so much about nearly every topic. That's neat that music has been a part of your family too!
ReplyDeleteHello Jared! I think that's awesome that you have such a passion for cars, and automotive videography and photography. I also agree with you on the fact that music has a huge role in our lives, and I think that's one of the best parts about music!
